Life with Carol Election Results

Carol

I am seeking election to this office because I feel it is important that we have leaders with a good work ethic. I want to be on the job,  not only to oversee the office but to do my part of daily tasks, working with those hired for the various work categories of the Court Clerk's Office.

My Goal If Elected:
For the Washita County Court Clerk Office to be known for a friendly greeting to all when entering the office and prompt efficient service every time.

Personal Life
I am the second of 3 daughters born to Betty (Reeves) Sharp and the late W. B. Sharp, Jr. Our family lived in Sentinel before moving to Cordell in 1965. My dad was the Washita County Clerk from 1977 until his retirment in 1992.

I was married to the late Roger Schmidt from 1967 to 1984.  We were blessed with four children, Carrie, Melissa, Jim and Jeff.  Carrie Garrison, Jim Schmidt and Jeff Schmidt live in Washita County and operate their own businesses.  Melissa lives in Newcastle, OK and  is a software engineer for the F.A.A.

In 1988, I married John “Jack” Corbett. Through this marriage I gained 3 bonus children,  Sallie, Ed and Dee Dee.   Sallie Powers lives and works in the Elk City area.  Ed Corbett lives outside Mathis, TX and works in hospital administration.  Dee Dee Feltman lives in Washita County and works for the Cordell school system.

Jack is retired. We are blessed with 15 grand children, 11 great grand children and several grand dogs.

I like to read and enjoy the library. I serve as chairperson for the Cordell Library Board.

Education
Elementary education was completed at Sentinel.
High school graduation was achieved in Cordell.
One semester of  classes at Southwestern in Weatherford, was completed before becoming a stay at home mother.
I’ve completed a variety of classes at the  Technology Center in Burns Flat as well as many hours of continuing education in conjunction with the Court Clerk's Office.

Work History
I was expected to do chores growing up.  I remember picking cotton north of Sentinel one season.  I believe it was a BB gun that I wanted and that was not in the family budget.  But, I was allowed to earn the money.  I learned the valuable life lesson of work and reward at an early age.

As a young wife and mother, I drove a wheat truck in the summer months and prepared meals for our custom harvest crew.  Some winter months, I worked part time in the dietary department of the Cordell Christian Home.

In 1984, I was blessed to find a job doing something I knew I could do well.  I was hired by Western Plains Library System to drive the Bookmobile truck.   It was a rewarding experience in a difficult period of life.   Skills obtained while performing my duties for Western Plains allowed me to advance to the position of librarian, when that position opened in Cordell.  I worked for Western Plains Library System until September of 1999.

I became a deputy clerk in the Washita County Court Clerk’s Office on October 1, 1999.   In 2007, I became the First Deputy to the Court Clerk, Tena Arganbright. Working for a Court Clerk with 28 years of experience in that office has provided a good foundation as I seek your support to become Washita County's next Court Clerk.
